Aaron Judge Sends Message to Pete Rose After Four-Hit Game, Including Yankees’ Go-Ahead RBI Single, Against Reds
Yankees captain Aaron Judge showcased his exceptional hitting skills during Saturday’s thrilling 7-4, 10-inning victory over the Cincinnati Reds, and he did so in front of MLB hit king Pete Rose, who was watching from behind the plate.
Judge’s flawless 4-for-4 performance included a walk and three RBIs, with the highlight being his go-ahead single up the middle in the 10th inning. The hit scored Greg Allen, giving the Yankees a 5-4 lead just before Anthony Rizzo’s subsequent home run sealed the final score.
Speaking about the presence of Pete Rose, Judge expressed, “When the hit king is in town, you want to put on a show. Our entire lineup stepped up to the plate, and I want to highlight the impressive performance of Benny (Ben Rortvedt) in his first game with the Yankees this year. It was great to see him get a couple of hits. He made a big impact behind the plate and had some fantastic at-bats.”
Despite facing an 0-2 count with one out and the go-ahead run, Greg Allen, standing just 90 feet away on third base, Judge rose to the occasion. He confidently connected with Ian Gibaut’s 86 mph breaking ball, sending it down the left-field line.
Judge shared his approach in such situations, saying, “In moments like that, you have to stay focused and believe that, regardless of the count, you have the opportunity to give your team the lead. With Rizzo and DJ LeMahieu following me in the lineup, I knew I had to stay aggressive and stick to my plan. Whether it’s 0-1, 0-2, or 3-2, you have to trust your abilities and make something happen.”
The victory against the Reds marked the Yankees’ second consecutive series win, and they have now emerged victorious in 10 of their last 13 games since May 7th. Despite their recent success, Judge humbly acknowledged that there is still room for improvement.
“We haven’t reached our full potential yet,” said Judge, who boasts impressive season statistics of .299/.400/.642 with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs in 38 games. They grind down pitchers, regardless of whether the opposing team takes a big lead. When Luke Maley hit a crucial two-run homer, extending their lead, our offense responded immediately. It was an all-around outstanding performance by the team.”
